The scope of this project by the McArdle Group involved widening the existing 3- and 4-lane motorway to 4, 5 or 6 lanes in each direction, and stage 2 construction of the spur road into Terminal 4.

Principal activities by McArdle comprised bulk earthworks, reinforced coils, structures fills, road construction, crushing and screening materials for recycling into the work, topsoiling and landscaping.

The widening of the M25 around London was the biggest roads project ever awarded by the Highways Agency. The highway, at 117 miles, is Europe's second-longest ring road after Germany's Autobahn 10, which encircles Berlin (and is five miles longer).
