Charity Fundraising CARE 24 Peaks challenge
At 4a.m. on the morning of 30th May 09 a team of 5 walkers and 3 support crew from McArdle arrived at Gatesgarth Farm in the Lake District to begin the most demanding event of the CARE challenge series, to climb 24 peaks within 24 hours.
Over the 2 days, the peaks, each one over 2400 feet including the infamous Scafell Pike, Hellvellwyn and Great Dodd were climbed over a total distance of 52km.
In what can only be described as the hardest physical feat that any of the team had ever endured, the McArdle team completed the event in 20hours 47minutes some 15 minutes ahead of our nearest competitor. Thoroughly exhausted and in somewhat pain, Team Leader, Steve Massey was presented with a bottle of champagne for the quickest team at the post event meal and awards party.
McArdle were proud to be able to raise over £5,000 for CARE International, a charity that helps fight poverty in 70 countries, helping 48million people each year and would like to thank all our sponsors for very generously contributing to this worthwhile cause.
