The McArdle Group has recently completed the Bulk Materials Logistics Centre that will service the Olympic Park in London leading up to the 2012 games.
McArdle's Environmental & Construction Services division was appointed by EWS to develop the large aggregates storage facility in Bow, East London, as part of the Olympic Village development, on a Design and Build Contract.
Largest aggregates depot
Thousands of tonnes of aggregates are being brought in daily by rail and road to support all of the contractors on the Olympic Village site.
The centre completed by McArdle is the largest aggregates depot within the site. It will play a key role in storing all the required materials needed to construct the various new arenas and buildings for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Flexible solution
An important requirement of the storage facility was that it should have a portable and flexible capability.
McArdle used an Alfabloc retaining wall system in combination with pre-stressed, interlocking L-blocs. Once construction of the Olympic Village is completed, the Alfablocs can then be removed and re-used on another project.
