OHSAS 18001
OHSAS 18001 is the internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. It has been developed by leading trade bodies, international standards and certification bodies to address a gap where no third-party certifiable international standard exists.
OHSAS 18001 has been designed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, to assist organisations in meeting their health and safety obligations in an efficient manner.
Construction Health and Safety Group
The CHSG was formed in 1952 and has grown to become one of the UK’s leading safety groups and main providers of construction safety training in the UK.
The CHSG has a universally acknowledged reputation for the delivery of first-class training in the field of accident prevention in the construction and civil engineering industries.
Its principal aims are to:
- Improve occupational health in the industry
- Foster co-operation between government, employers and those who work in the industry
- Study the health and safety training needs of the industry
- Provide training in response to the identified need
CHAS
The McArdle Group is also a qualified civil engineering contractor under the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).
This scheme has been developed by local authority health and safety and procurement professionals in the UK, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive.
CHAS assesses applicant’s health and safety policy statements, their organisation for health and safety and their specific health and safety arrangements to a standard acceptable to buyers and others.
The scheme is available for any public or private sector organisations to use when shortlisting contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies) who apply to work for them.
