This bespoke design and build contract by the McArdle Group for Hochtief, as part of a project to construct a new Energy Recovery Facility at Newhaven in East Sussex, and showcases our expertise in remediation work.
The site was heavily contaminated with creosote, P(a)B and lead.
The works consisted of:
- Site investigation
- Development of a remediation strategy and methodology for the site
- Installation of 1,000 metres of clay cut-off trenches around the outside of the works
- Construction of an HDPE lined storage lagoon and 500 metres of associated drainage
- Design, installation and maintenance of a water treatment plant for the disposal of site groundwater into the River Ouse
- Decontamination, removal off site and containment on site of contaminants
- Mass dig and disposal
- Stabilisation of materials for re-use
- Backfilling excavations to designed pile mat levels with soils approved for re-use
