Lighthouse Club

lighthouse club

From its very beginning the members of the Lighthouse Club raised money for charity. At that time there wasn't a charity dedicated to the construction industry and so the Club's founders saw a need that could some day be met.

By 1960 the Club's founders realised that now there was enough being raised to actually create a charity specifically for their industry. The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund was the result. A trust deed was prepared; Trustees were appointed; and registration with the Charity Commissioners took place in 1962.

What this means is that the Benevolent Fund is an independent entity, governed by statute. The Trustees legal responsibility is to the Charity Commissioners. However, the Chairman of the Trustees is a member of the Club's National Council and reports quarterly to its members.

So far the Trustees have overseen the disbursement of over seven million pounds, a figure that certainly justifies the Club's Latin motto 'Aliis cum Humanitate', which translates as 'Consideration for Others'.
