Staff training and development

We attach great importance to the training and development of our employees to standards that ensure the continuing competence, effectiveness and safety of individuals. In addition, every encouragement is given to the individual to gain experience, skills and confidence to progress to the next level.

Training requirements for safety, quality, environmental, commercial and technical matters are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure training is kept up to date with legislation and both company and personal development targets.

Training and Competency Management Statement

The McArdle Group will endeavour to ensure that the following training is carried out as a minimum requirement.

Directors, General Managers

  • IOSH for Senior Executives
  • Health and Safety Touch Screen Test – Management (if appropriate for CSCS cards)
  • Any further training relevant to job role


Line Managers, Contracts Managers, Works Managers

  • Health and Safety Touch Screen Test Management, if appropriate for CSCS Card
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS), if appropriate
  • Site Supervisors Safety Training (SSSTS)
  • First aid
  • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) Level 3 and 4 (where appropriate)
  • Any further training relevant to job role

Foremen

  • Health and Safety Touch Screen Test – Supervisors
  • Site Supervisors Safety Training (SSSTS)
  • First aid
  • Supervision of Quick Hitch and Attachments
  • Coaching skills (delivering daily briefings and work box talks)
  • NVQs Level 3 (Supervision Competence)
  • Confined Space with Breathing Apparatus (if appropriate & relevant to job role)
  • New Roads and Street works for Supervisors (if appropriate & relevant to job role)
  • Banksman (if appropriate – relevant to job role)
  • Fire Marshall

Plant Operatives, Gangermen

The McArdle Group is very proud to announce our achievement of the Investors in People standard.  The Group was  recognised by the standard on 22nd March 2011.

Investors in People is an internationally recognised and respected mark of good practice for the investment  the company has made in the training and development of our people.

Approved Employer Status

The McArdle Group is working towards Approved Employer Status with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors for those graduates undertaking training schemes to achieve chartered status and CSCS/CPCS assessors, verifiers etc.

The company is also working towards the Investors in People award.

We are justifiably proud of our health and safety record and are fully committed to maintaining this record by ensuring that all staff and employees are trained in accordance with the training statement as a minimum training requirement.

In addition we continue to achieve 100% registration of all necessary employees under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
